Man impersonates police officer to steal student’s iPhone

A suspected thief is on the run after allegedly impersonating a police officer and stealing a student’s iPhone in Mandalay last week.

The man, who has not been named, donned a police uniform and approached 18-year-old Maung Zaw Myo Naing and his friend on the campus of the university in Mahaaungmye Township.

The student had entered a restricted area, the ‘officer’ said, and needed to pay a K30,000 fine.

“Afterwards, he replaced my motorbike with his motorcycle and seized my iPhone and left us on 73 Street,” Maung Zaw Myo Naing told the Global New Light of Myanmar.

“I visited police station to pay the fine the next day when I knew he is an impostor policeman.”

Local police said they wanted to track the offender down to set an example. Hopefully the student has Find My iPhone.
