Man fatally stabbed by teenage stepson after argument over curfew

A 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his teenage stepson after the two got into a fight about the latter coming home so late after a night out.

The attack took place last Thursday at the family’s home in Shwepyithar. A neighbor who spoke to The Voice stated that the victim rarely came to the Shwepyithar house, and that the place was primarily occupied by the 16-year-old boy, his sister, and their mom.

Thursday, however, was one of the rare days that the victim was actually home. When his stepson came back late that night, the two got into a fight.

“That day, when the boy got home, the stepfather was asking him why he came back so late, if he knew what time it was, and stuff like that. The boy responded that he wasn’t his real dad and that it wasn’t his place to scold him, and the two got into an argument,” said the neighbor.

Things quickly escalated, and the culprit grabbed a nearby knife and stabbed his stepfather in the stomach.

The man was rushed to Insein General Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.

According to Shwepyithar police, the culprit is still on the run, and is wanted for murder under Section 302.
