A 35-year-old man drowned in Yangon’s Kandawgyi Lake on the first day of Thingyan celebrations last week.

The body of Sa Myo Tun, from South Okkalapa Township, was discovered by swimmers on April 15, a day after friends had reported him missing.

According to 7Days News Journal, his body was found near to a stage where the popular rock band Iron Cross had performed.

“He drowned yesterday [14 April], the day that Thingyan started, but today people who swam accidentally touched the dead body and found it,” police from Bahan Township were quoted as saying.
