A Malaysian man was fatally hit by a car outside Yangon’s Myanmar Plaza early Saturday morning.

Vinothkumar Marimuthu, 33, died on the spot at around 2am, shortly before members of the Moe Saytana charity organization arrived on the scene to provide assistance.

“The man was already dead when we arrived there,” a representative of the organization told Eleven.

His body was taken to Yangon General Hospital.

The driver of the car that fatally hit Marimuthu fled the scene. Bahan Township police are now searching for the driver, who is expected to be charged under Section 304(a) of the Myanmar Penal Code for “causing death by negligence.”

According to the victim’s Facebook profile, he worked for a Malaysia-based company called Heiman Sensor Packaging.

Several people who knew Marimuthu have expressed condolences to his family on social media.
