Lost wild elephants shown the way home

Six wild elephants who wandered more than 100 miles from their natural habitat in central Myanmar are being shown the way home.

In a plot straight out of Homeward Bound, another group of tame elephants is helping them.

The wild herd, which lives in forested areas in Bago Region, have been sighted as far away as Magwe Region and Mandalay Region and were last week spotted relaxing in a valley near a village in Bago’s Kyaukpadang Township.

According to the local forestry department, tame elephants were enlisted to “redirect” the elephants away from the village.

“We’re hoping that they will continue to travel in the general direction of Sanpya and Mehtee villages,” U Win Htike told state-run newspaper the Global New Light of Myanmar. “But it’s too soon to know whether everything will go according to plan.”

Good luck, little lost elephants.
