Members of parliament green-lighted a $138 million loan to build a bridge from downtown Yangon to Dala Township, the Myanmar Times reported on Friday.
The bridge, which would start off on Phone Gyi street downtown and extend over the Yangon River to Dala, was first agreed-to in 2012, but compensation amounts for Dala residents affected by the project were only sealed recently. Dala is currently accessible via ferries and an out-of-the-way bridge.
Under the terms of the project, Myanmar will pitch in approximately $30 million on top of the bulk loan, which comes from South Korea.
Construction is expected to start sometime this year and should last until 2020.
