Myanmar’s MPs upheld the country’s reputation as one of the most charitable in the world on Monday when they agreed to give money to victims of fires in Irrawaddy Region and Shan State.
Mann Win Khine Tha, Union Parliament speaker, made the proposal for each of the 664 lawmakers to donate 20,000 kyats (about $17) each.
It’s unclear how the funds will be distributed.
Fires last week caused widespread damage in two townships: Labutta in Irrawaddy Region and Namsan in Shan State.
