Junction Square shut down by blaze

Junction Square Shopping Center, one of the biggest malls in Yangon, was shuttered early last night after a small fire sent smoke pouring through the building.

The fire started after an electrical fault at YKKO restaurant on the third floor of the mall in Hledan Township, the fire service department told 7 Days.

Pictures posted to Facebook showed dozens of firefighters on the scene, climbing into the upper floors on ladders, while onlookers stood outside watching.

More than 20 fire trucks and seven cars turned up, but the blaze had already gone out by the time they arrived.
