Introducing the uber-luxe tours of uber-dull Naypyidaw, yours for $8,000

It’s election season in Myanmar and Naypyidaw, the purpose-built capital long-derided as one of Asia’s most boring cities, is having a moment. Angelina Jolie swung by recently. The nightlife is getting interesting.

It’s probably about time, then, that something like this came onto the market: The Vintage Luxury Yacht Hotel’s $8,000 two-day tour of the capital via Rolls Royce.

The trip, advertised on the Yangon-based floating hotel’s website, includes two days of “luxury sightseeing” in the capital.

Patrick Winn, GlobalPost‘s Southeast Asia correspondent, had this to say about it:

FYI, this is Naypyidaw. (The city was dubbed a ‘slice of post-apocalypse suburbia’ by The Guardian last year.)

The Vintage Luxury Yacht Hotel did not immediately respond to request for comment, so we can only imagine what the tour includes. The possibilities are endless.

– Play a round at one of the city’s two golf courses. Who knows? You could be tee-ing off on the site where the purge of former ruling party chairman Shwe Mann was plotted.
– Worship at the shrine of natural resource plundering with a stop-off at the government-run Gems Museum.
– Cool off at Kempinski Hotel’s Grand Royal Suite (a comparative steal at $5,000 per night).

In case post-apocalypse suburbia isn’t your thing, The Vintage Luxury Yacht Hotel also offers Rolls Royce tours of Yangon.

Those are $2,500 per day. But, hey, they throw in three bottles of mineral water.
