Seven inmates escaped from a prison in Kawkareik Township, Kayin State, on Saturday. They reportedly got away by using their longyis as ropes to escape from the roof of the prison.

One escapee was apprehended the same night of the escape. Six others remain on the run.

“We are carrying out a manhunt for the remaining escaped inmates,” a police officer from the Kawkareik Township Police Station told Eleven.

The police have filed a suit against the escaped inmates under Section 224 of the Penal Code for obstructing apprehension.
