India sends 15 tons of human hair to Myanmar

This is the story you’ve been waiting to read all day.

It’s about human hair. Lots of human hair.

Nearly 15 tons of the stuff were flown from India’s Tiruchi International Airport to Yangon via Kuala Lumpur since January this year, a leap from 1.4 tons in the same period of 2014, the Hindu reported.

“This is a phenomenal jump in export of human hair compared to the previous year when the shipment was only 1.4 tons,” an airport official told the newspaper.

If you’ve flown similar routes on Air Asia recently, your luggage may have been stacked next to some of this hair.

According to the report, the product was initially sent in the cargo holds of Air Asia passenger flights operating from Tiruchi to KL.

It’s not clear if the hairy flights continued from KL to Yangon with Air Asia, but that seems likely.

Moving all that hair would probably be annoying.

It’s unclear why the Indian hair trade is booming here. Normally, Myanmar is the source.
