How Aung San Suu Kyi compares to other world leaders…in terms of Facebook ‘Likes’

Aung San Suu Kyi is the most popular leader in Myanmar, and her Facebook presence reflects it. She has more than 1.7 million ‘Likes’ on her public page.

But according to a new study released this week by communications firm Burson-Marsteller, that’s actually kind of low compared to other global figures.

The study, conducted earlier this month, included 87 heads of state, 82 prime ministers and 51 foreign ministers.

Who is at the top?

United States President Barack Obama.

Launched in 2007, Obama’s official campaign page now has more than 46 million Likes. His personal page, however, started late last year, had about 1.3 million Likes at the time of the study. But that was generated in two months, and as of Wednesday, the number of Likes was creeping towards 1.6 million.

Not trailing far behind is Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has garnered more than 31 million Likes on his personal page and 10.1 million Likes on his official prime minister’s page, according to Burson-Marsteller.

That’s to be expected. Modi is very active on social media. As we know by now, the man loves a good selfie.

In sheer numbers, the survey lumped Suu Kyi into the company of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino and Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia.

But she is actually far behind Aquino, who is ranked 10th on the Most Liked World Leaders in 2015 list, with more than 4.2 million Likes.
