Heritage Works: The best of the festival celebrating Yangon

Heritage Works, a mammoth festival exploring Yangon’s rich heritage is taking place at venues across the city this weekend. There are panel talks, exhibitions (see our interview with one of the photographers), film screenings, freebies – you can see the full schedule on the Heritage Works Facebook page, or check out our picks below.
 
Panel discussion: How to make urban regeneration happen (Sunday)
An expansive discussion featuring dozens of experts including staff from ADB Myanmar, the Yangon Heritage Trust and government ministries.
2pm until 6pm. Sunday. YCDC Main Hall.
 
‘When I was your age’: An afternoon with the elders (Sunday)

New ideas for old buildings (Saturday and Sunday)
Some 100 young Myanmar architects dreamed up solutions for heritage buildings, with the help of 26 renowed local and international architects. Their designs are on show this weekend and they will be answering questions (in Myanmar and English) on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 2 pm.

Films (Sunday)
Mini-documentaries by Yangon Film School students exploring the lives of people living in colonial-era buildings. Including: Insein Rhythm, featuring workers and passengers at Insein Railway Station and ‘My Grandfather’s House’.
Screenings at 11am and 2pm. Myanmar Deitta Gallery, 44th Street.
 
Free drinks (Saturday and Sunday)

Rangoon Tea House, Sharky’s on Pansodan Street, Tin Tin and The Willow Inn, all set in colonial-era buildings, are opening their doors to showcase renovation efforts – and that means complementary beverages. (Photo / Rangoon Tea House)
