Heritage tours to resume next month

The grey and stormy days might seem endless now but, relax; walking weather is on the horizon.

Yangon Heritage Trust has announced it will resume its tours of the city’s historic buildings – paused for the monsoon – on September 2.

They’re upping the frequency from two to three tours per week (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday) in the morning (9am) and afternoon (3pm or 4pm), according to a statement posted online.

The guided walks, priced at $30, take in the city’s historic downtown area, which boats the densest collection of heritage buildings of any in Asia.

Groups meander down Pansodan Street and Strand Road and stop at sites like the Secretariat (pictured), where independence leader Aung San was gunned down in 1947, the Armenian church and Myanmar’s only synagogue.

Private tours can be arranged for groups of five or more.
