Heineken unveils local Myanmar brew Regal Seven

Heineken yesterday became the latest international brewmaster to unveil a local beer for Myanmar: Regal Seven.

The company had a launch party in Yangon – our invitation must have gotten lost in the mail – but we tried the beverage in its natural habitat, a beer station downtown.

The verdict? Sad to say there’s not much to write home about here. The beer is perfectly adequate as something to sip while eating peanuts and watching the buses fly by on Sule Pagoda Road.

Others may disagree, but as far as actual taste goes this reviewer felt it resembled a watered-down version of Heineken.

You be the judge. Like Carlsberg’s Yoma, Regal Seven was adapted for the domestic market to compete with Myanmar Beer.

Bottles, like the one in this awful photo by esteemed Yangon journalist Feliz Vered Solomon, cost around $1.50.
