Government to print 125 million ballots for the election

Another jaw-dropping figure related to the election arrived in the news today.

We already have 92 political parties and more than 6,000 candidates, which is probably why the election commission ordered a brand-new set of ballots.

A brand-new set of 125 million, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar, whose freakishly large headline in today’s paper reads “BETTER BALLOTS.”

The actual figure is 125,550,000. Different clumps of ballots will be used in different contests. For instance, the lower house will be separate from the upper house.

U Aung Myo Myint, the managing director of the state-run Printing and Publishing Enteprise, which is handling the order from the Union Election Commission, told reporters on Thursday that the ballots are of better quality than those used in past elections.

The yellow paper was imported from Indonesia, and watermarks will help fight voter fraud, he added.
