French backpacker and cyclist Arthur Angé set off from France three years ago, hoping to cross the word by bicycle and on foot. His Facebook cover photo shows six of the world’s continents roughly outlined in red, captioned: “World tour by land.”  By January 26, he had made it to Dhaka, Bangladesh. That was the last day his friends or family heard from him.

Arthur’s friends around the world are now seeking information from people in all the countries he had on his itinerary, including Myanmar.

According to a Facebook page dedicated to finding the missing traveler, Arthur had been trying to find a boat that would take him from Chittagong, Bangladesh, to Malaysia, where he planned to meet a friend. When no one would take him, he reluctantly decided to travel overland through Myanmar.

Some of those involved in the search believe he might have been arrested while trying to cross from Bangladesh into Myanmar, where the Myanmar army was carrying out clearance operations against Rohingya communities just over the border. Others presume that he would have tried to enter Myanmar through India, which has a border crossing at Tamu. The Facebook page says Arthur’s friends and family have reached out to border authorities, who have not offered any information.

Arthur is said to be 30 years old and six feet tall with brown eyes and chestnut-red hair.

Anyone with information on Arthur’s whereabouts has been asked to contact his family by emailing arthurangemissing@gmail.com or to contact the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

More information is also available on the Facebook page Arthur Whereareyou.
