Foreign firms invited to build Myanmar’s tallest bridge

International companies will be invited to bid to build the 48-meter-high bridge that will link Yangon with Dala township, the Myanmar Times reported.

U Kyaw Lwin, Ministry of Construction permanent secretary, said the tender process for the bridge, funded by a $137.8 million loan from South Korea, would begin “soon.”

“A construction company will also be selected by international tender,” he was quoted as saying.

U Soe Tint, deputy construction minister, told parliament the South Korean-funded bridge would be the country’s tallest.

Together with the bridge will come a water pipeline for Dala residents, who suffer from severe shortages in the hot season.
