FMI Air launches flights to Sittwe in Rakhine state

There’s some other news out of Naypyidaw we forgot to mention amid the Shwe Mann ouster mania that took hold yesterday.

FMI Air, the first commercial airline based in the capital, expanded its routes this week with five weekly flights from Yangon to Sittwe in Rakhine state.

Mark Turner, director of customer experience, said on Wednesday that for a promotion period ending on August 31, the price for a one-way ticket will be $65 for both Myanmar nationals and foreigners.

Earlier this week the airline held its inaugural flight to Sittwe. A contributor sent us this photo from inside the cabin. Not too shabby.

Flights from Yangon leave on weekdays at 1:05pm and from Sittwe back to the city at 2:35pm.

Part of the SPA Group of Companies, FMI Air was a charter operation before launching commercial flights on May 4. The fleet consists of two Bombardier CJR-200 aircraft, with a third on its way later this year.

Besides Naypyidaw and now Sittwe, the carrier also flies to Mandalay from Yangon.
