Few overseas Yangon residents have applied to vote

Less than 10,000 Yangon residents living overseas have applied to vote in the upcoming elections – a tiny fraction of the number believed to be based abroad.

An estimated two million overseas Myanmar citizens were asked to submit documentation to embassies, Eleven Media reported.

A nationwide total of about 18,000 applied.

Many complained about the complicated procedure.

“Those who did not inform the embassy, what can the embassy do for them?” said Khin Zaw Tun, an official with the Yangon Region election commission.
