Following her tragic suicide, the family of 21-year-old Zin Mar Oo is demanding a full investigation into what could’ve prompted the young woman to take her own life.

Although Zin Mar Oo last lived with her grandparents before leaving to take a job as a domestic worker in Singapore, her father, Maung Tin Shwe, is planning on travelling to Singapore to hopefully get some answers. He told Mizzima: “Right now, we don’t know any possible reasons [as to why this happened]. She was a good daughter… As her father, I want to know the truth.”

Social media was flooded with photos of videos of Zin Mar Oo on the ledge both minutes before, and during, her jump. Maung Tin Shwe confessed to Mizzima: “I only knew that this had happened to her when I saw the videos on Facebook.”

Zin Mar Oo’s uncle Thar Tun Aung will also be accompanying Maung Tin Shwe. Thar Tun Aung told 7Day that Zin Mar Oo had found the job through an agent, and that the family is currently trying to get in touch with said agent. He also stated that they’d only talked to Zin Mar Oo once in the 11 months that she had been working in Singapore. And although she was actually 21-years-old, the agent put her age down as 25 on the travel documents.

“There are rumors that her employers were abusing her. I also heard that she wasn’t fed properly. I want to know the real reason as to why she jumped,” Thar Tun Aung said.

“The main reason we’re going to Singapore is to talk with officials from the Singaporean and Myanmar embassies… and find out why this happened to my niece and to ask [the authorities] to take the appropriate actions.”

Both Thar Tun Aung and Maung Tin Shwe are reportedly flying to Singapore today.
