Yangon police apprehended a YBS bus driver and conductor with their weapons drawn yesterday after they received what later turned out to be fake information claiming that the pair was in possession of weapons while on duty.

According to 7Day, the Kyauktada Police Station received a tip from an unknown number around 5:30pm yesterday evening that the driver and conductor of a YBS bus operating downtown had knives on them.

Authorities immediately sent a fire truck to the bus stop in front of Yangon City Hall, where they stopped the bus in question. Police then arrived with their weapons out and arrested the bus driver and conductor.

According to photos uploaded by Facebook user Phyoe Mg Mg Winn, the arrest was made around 5:45pm. The bus was operating on the 7 line.

“We were told that they had weapons on them, so we went armed. It was a bus stop, so there would’ve been a lot of bystanders as well,” an officer from the Kyauktada police station explained to 7Day.

However, the driver and conductor were let go after a police search found no such weapons on the bus or on the two men.

Don’t spread fake news, kids.
