Exorcist accused of beating three children to death in Yangon charged with murder

A 30-year-old exorcist whom authorities say punched and kicked three children to death over the course of two days in a Yangon township has been charged with murder.

The Myanmar Times reports that Ko Tun Naing was invited to a friend’s home in Twante township on October 18 and carried out his grisly work – which allegedly involved just beating the children – over two days.

Police told the newspaper that a three-year-old boy was allegedly killed on October 18, while two girls, a two-year-old and eight-month-old, were beaten to the death the next day.

The children were apparently all related to the man who invited the exorcist to come to the village.

It’s unclear why he or the other family members who were present at the ritual were not facing legal action.

According to the report, Ko Tun Naing was also charged with causing grievous hurt and disposing of evidence – he is accused of dumping one of the bodies in a canal and burying the two others.

One child, a four-year-old, reportedly survived.
