Does the EU think Aung San Suu Kyi is from Mongolia?

During her visit to Brussels yesterday, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held a press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini. The two leaders’ statements were predictably platitudinous – Mogherini praised Suu Kyi’s lifelong struggle for democracy, and the Lady told the world not too expect too much from her government.

“Changing a country that has lived under dictatorship for more than 50 years is not easy,” Suu Kyi said. “Changing mindsets is a lot more difficult than changing a government.”

Fair enough, some would say.

She went on: “The world is concerned with stability and with peace more and more every passing day. There is a greater need for stability and peace throughout our world. A need for understanding, a need for mutual respect. And this is what we have been trying to build up between the EU and my country –”

Wait, what country? Let’s see what the title of the video says:

Well, that’s distracting.

Looks like someone at the European Commission Audiovisual Services doesn’t know who the most famous person in Myanmar is.

Check out part of the press conference below (the YouTube version doesn’t make the same mistake), and comment if you know where Aung San Suu Kyi is really from.
