Emirates flights to Yangon already overbooked for August

With Emirates – recently crowned the world’s best airline – set to touch down in Yangon next week, the route is reportedly already overbooked for August.

Daily flights between the city and transport hub Dubai, capital of the United Arab Emirates, begin August 3.

The route stops in Yangon before continuing on to Hanoi.

“There are a lot of eyes on Myanmar right now,” Mohammad Sarhan, Emirates Country Manager for Thailand, Myanmar and Indochina, told Frontier.

“The country is opening up, business is growing and the government predicts 7.5 million tourists by 2020. When we heard this news, we knew we wanted to do business here.”

Myanmar’s airspace has grown increasing crowded in recent years. Qatar Airways began flights to Doha in 2012.

“It took some time to have things approved, but eventually it all worked,” Sahran said, in reference to the recent government change.

“We are grateful that the political environment currently supports us.”
