Dresscode Pikachu: Glitzy Yangon club to host Pokemon hunt party

From churches to high street shops, institutions and small business around the world have been capitalizing on the commercial potential of the Pokemon Go craze.

Here in Yangon, a high-end club is throwing a glitzy party especially for Pokemon fans, complete with EDM beats and, er, Pikachu hunting.

Myanmar – where most people didn’t have cell phones as recently as three years ago – has gone mad for the virtual reality game, with smartphone-glued players wandering the major cities and joining mass Pokehunts.

The Clubhouse, located inside the Kandawgyi Palace Hotel, is capitalizing on its location as a Pokemon Gym, a place where users can battle against one another, to throw what it is calling the ‘first ever Pokemon Hunt party’.

“Pokemon GO followers… We have decided to throw first ever Pokemon Hunt Party at The Clubhouse!” the Facebook event reads. “Do you know that we have a PokeGym at Kandawgyi Palace Hotel where the area is known for rare Pokemon sightings as well?”

The soundtrack will be provided by local EDM crew Bounce Squad.

EDM plus Pokemon. Depending on your frame of mind, this could be the worst – or best – party ever.

Oh and the dresscode? Possibly the most confusing we have ever heard. “Smart Pokemon.”
