Railway accidents killed 50 people and injured 48 across Myanmar in the first half of this year, according to official figures.
The country’s creaky rail network, which dates back to the colonial-era, is notoriously dangerous. Collisions with cars are common. There have been more than 100 such crashes so far this year, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported.
Several people have been found dead after lying or falling asleep on the tracks.
Last year, there were close to 100 deaths in rail-related accidents.
Railway police are trying to combat the problem, according to New Light, by holding public seminars and handing out pamphlets.
