A dentist who was attending a training course in Naypyidaw was electrocuted in his dorm bathroom on Saturday due to faulty wiring.
The accident took place at about 8am when the deceased went for his morning shower. Shortly after he went in, his roommate realized that something had happened, broke down the bathroom lock, and found his friend unconscious on the floor.
The man was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, police believe that the accident was due to faulty wires that connected the bathroom’s water heater switch and the shower.
First Lieutenant Kyaw Khaing from the Zabu Thiri police station explained to 7Day: “The electricity had been out since 6am, but it came back on just as the doctor was going for his shower so he turned on the water heater switch. He was electrocuted when he reached for the shower handset.”
The pipe containing the heating wires reportedly exploded, leading to the tragic accident.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Htigyaing, located in eastern Sagaing Division. He was one of 104 dentists attending a dental course in Naypyidaw.
