Child wounded in wild elephant mishap

In what sounds like the closest of close calls, a group of villagers managed to avoid being trampled by several wild elephants in Magwe Division yesterday.

One child was injured, though not seriously, according to 7Day Daily.

About eight elephants were spotted in the forest near Natmauk town. Local residents went to take a look and get some photos (the 7Day story has one image) but they apparently got too close.

One of the elephants trumpeted and scared a child, who tried to run away but slipped and fell.

He was injured slightly as he slipped in the path of one of the great beasts.

U Bo Wai, a villager said that people “are not afraid of elephants.”

Maybe they are now?
