Cameras to catch canoodling couples at Inya Lake

Yangon’s leafy Inya Lake has long been a popular date spot. On a typical weekend, the shores are lined with young couples sneaking kisses behind umbrellas.

Officials are clearly irked. See the above no sex’ signs, posted in the area.

Now, the Yangon City Development Council has said it plans to install CCTV to catch couples in the act – or showing “unmannerly behavior” – and, chillingly, send photos to their parents. The horror.

They say it’s to cut down on sex crime, according to The Voice, and that’s all well and good. But what about consensual canoodlers? If young people can’t snuggle behind an umbrella anymore, romance is dead.
