Brothers sought after brutal stabbing in local government office

Yangon police are searching for two brothers, including a 25-year-old recently freed from prison in a presidential amnesty, after a local government employee was stabbed in his office last week.

Yan Aung and his brother, Aung Kyaw Zaw, 29, allegedly stormed an administrative office in Mayangone Township on Thursday, attacking employee Than Naing after a petty row, according to the Voice Weekly.

An employee said Yan Aung came into the office saying he had been called in. “[Than Naing] replied that nobody had called him,” said the employee. “Then, he used very rude words and left.”

Fifteen minutes later, according to their account, Yan Aung returned with his brother and stabbed the official, who sustained minor wounds.

Mayangone Township police identified Yan Aung as one of some 7,000 prisoners released as part of a presidential amnesty in July.
