Bomb scare stops services at Yangon train station

Commuters got a scare at Yangon’s Hnin Si Kone train station this week after a suspect package was found on the tracks.

Bomb squads were deployed to check out a parcel reported to police by a commuter at around 7:40am on a recent morning, according to Eleven Media, which did not specify the day.

It turned out to contain no explosives.

In a somewhat haphazard-sounding operation the squad “covered it with sand bags and old tyres” said Police Sergeant Tin Zaw Htike from Thingangyun Township police station.

Trains stopped running for more than an hour.

“People at the station were frightened,” a local told Eleven.
