Body found at Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Station

The body of a dead male was found in a creek near Gate 4 of Yangon’s Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Terminal around 10:30 am yesterday morning.

The man was later identified as a 40-year-old rickshaw driver from North Okkalapa township.

When asked about the cause of death, an officer from the Mingaladon Police Station told Eleven, “He drowned to death. We estimate that he’s been dead for about three days. He doesn’t live at home and he drinks a lot.”

Witnesses first noticed a piece of clothing in the water and called up the police and fire departments who came over to rescue the body, which was already starting to rot. No one in the area had seen the man before.

The body was sent over to a coroner who examined it for signs of a struggle, but only found a small cut on his leg.

The police are leaning towards ruling the case an accident. “We think he just fell into the water. He had no bruises or any other indications that he was shoved or got into a fight. Judging by what we found, he was probably drunk and fell on his own,” said the Mingaladon officer.

Nonetheless, an official investigation is being conducted by the Mingaladon Police Station.
