Tourists may soon be able to fly straight from the Thai capital to Myanmar’s southern island archipelago, as Bangkok Airways plans two more routes between the neighboring nations.
The airline is seeking approval to fly between Bangkok and Myeik and Chiang Mai and Bagan, the Bangkok Post reports. Both Myeik and Bagan are burgeoning tourist hotspots.
While the process may take up to 8 months, Bangkok Airways says it plans to put the new Bangkok-Myeik and Chiang Mai-Bagan flights on its winter schedule, starting in October.
The airline already operates the most connections between Thailand and Myanmar, with routes from Bangkok to Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw and from Chiang Mai to Yangon and Mandalay.
