Ships and river dwellers in the central region of Myanmar have been urged to be cautious after the Ayeyarwady River swelled dramatically yesterday.
By 3:30pm yesterday, the water level had increased by more than 6 feet, according to the Weather and Forecasting Department, after rain fell and snow and ice melted at the river’s source in the north of the country.
It could rise by another four or five feet in places including Katha, Mandalay, Sagaing and Pyay over the coming week, The Voice reported.
“We will collaboarate with respective organizations for announcements,’” an employee of the department’s Katha Township office said.
