Aung Thaung’s funeral set for Monday

The funeral of controversial ruling party lawmaker and former military hardliner Aung Thaung will be held this Monday.

The Union Solidarity and Development Party politician was 74 when he died on Thursday in Singapore, where he was being treated after suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage earlier this month.

A source close to his family told the BBC that his body will be cremated and bones taken to his hometown in Mandalay’s Thaungtha Township.

He will be buried beside his wife, who died in 2013.
