Aung San Suu Kyi to visit United States in September

Foreign Minister and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will be making that trip to the United States in mid-September, the AP reports.

Ben Rhodes, a top aide to Obama and the deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, made the formal invite on a trip this month, but a date was not set.

The United Nations General Assembly will gather around then in New York City and her visit is thought to coincide with the timing of the UN meet.

Since her government came to power in April, Suu Kyi has been receiving many invites.

As we detailed in a post on Thursday, even North Korea wants to organize a visit.

We have cautioned against it, but we don’t know if Suu Kyi reads Coconuts Yangon.

Could someone pass on the advice? Thanks!
