Aung San Suu Kyi and her little dog celebrate Myanmar’s festival of lights

Good politicians never estimate the power of an animal photo.

Last week it was President Htin Kyaw cuddling up to Burmese cats in Inle Lake. Now, it’s the state counselor herself, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Photos have emerged showing her celebrating Thadingyut, the official holiday that marks the end of Buddhist lent, at her home in Napyitaw on Sunday with her little dog, Tai Chi Toe, in tow.

The pooch was given to her by her son in 2010. He accompanied her to last year’s Thadingyut festivities, too. Images showed the two of them sitting on the steps of her home in Yangon.

This year, she reportedly hosted an event in the capital, inviting her security guards to her home.

The last night of the festival is tonight – if you haven’t checked out the festival in Yangon, with human-powered Ferris wheels and snakecharmers, then get down there.
