The son of a prominent human rights lawyer in Myanmar has developed an app to connect victims of rights abuses with those who could defend them.
Win Htaik Aung, a former web-developer whose father is Robert San Aung, started working on the Myanmar Human Rights app back in 2013.
Now it’s gone live, users can obtain information on human rights as well as submit anonymous reports about violations, the Myanmar Times reported.
There’s one problem: it’s one thing to give citizens the tools to report abuses, but another to scrutinize their truthfulness.
Win Htaik Aung is working alone and cannot assess all the claims that could arise.
He hopes to recruit volunteers in future to sift through evidence connected with allegations. Or just, for now, offer a link to human rights activists.
“I won’t solve human rights issues,” he told the Times. “But I will redirect people to those that can help.”
