Annual Yangon festival marks holiday with man-powered ferris wheels, snake charming and street games

Thadingyut, the official holiday that marks the end of Buddhist Lent, fell on Sunday.

As usual, the diverse and quirky festivities were in full swing at the annual street fair on Bogyoke Road in Yangon in Yaykyaw quarter.

There were, of course, the human-powered ferris wheels.

And plenty of snacks.

Those who weren’t hungry could browse the dozens of vendors, whether you were in the mood for a knick-knack or a mosquito net.

In keeping with past years the weird and wacky were also on display, including the reliable snake charmer, though he doesn’t seem to be doing much charming in this photo.

And children rolling dice. Totally normal.

The festival continues for one more night tonight.
