A Chinese national was caught by airport customs police with gold ingots hidden inside his socks. And we don’t mean socks that he had packed in the suitcase — he had literally stuffed the gold under his feet inside the socks that he had on.

The Ministry of Information reports that the arrest was made on Tuesday at Tachilek Airport. The man was meant to be on an Air KBZ flight bound for Yangon, but Tachilek authorities stopped him before he could board the flight.

Each ingot weighed approximately 2.15kg. Together, the four ingots are worth an estimated MMK97 million.
