After Yangon victory, champion fighter ‘The Burmese Python’ calls for end to Kachin civil war

After a thumping victory at Yangon’s Thuwanna Stadium last night, Kachin fighter Aung La Nsang, aka ‘The Burmese Python’ called on the crowd to pay attention to the civil war in his home state.

The 31-year-old, who was born in Myitkyina, capital of Kachin state, but lives in the US, defeated his Polish opponent, Michal Pasternak, before a legion of adoring fans at the ONE Championship battle.

The crowd, firmly behind the homegrown favorite, was chanting his name before he even showed up.

After winning the second bout, he told addressed them, saying: “What I want to say is there is a war happening in Kachin state. Please help as much as you can. Everything can happen if all of Myanmar unites.”

Fighting has broken out anew between Myanmar army forces and the Kachin Independent Army (KIA) in recent weeks. Protesters lined the streets of Myitkyina this week demanding an end to hostilities.
