After tumultuous parting, former Pomelo co-founders open ‘Hla Day’ store

The foreign co-founders of popular craft shop Pomelo have opened up a new shop after a particularly nasty and public separation from their old business partners earlier this year.

The new place, called Hla Day, is conveniently located right across the hall from Rangoon Tea House, in a spacious room much bigger than Pomelo.

We poked our heads in on Monday and can report that the place looks similar to Pomelo, featuring craft goods and othder colorful doodads.

The Pomelol breakup was first reported in the Myanmar Times and revealed claims of threats and physical intimidation against the founder, general manager and lead designer, all fired in February.

Pomelo, which is located on Thein Phyu road, is a social enterprise that sources goods from dozens of Myanmar producers and was set up in 2013 as a local firm registered under the name of Myanmar partner Thea Thea because of restrictions on foreign enterprises.

Hla Day is on 81 Pansodan Road
