After Bangkok blast, Myanmar embassy warns citizens of high-risk areas in city

Not long after signing a heralded visa-free travel agreement with Thailand, the Myanmar government says there are 10 places in Bangkok its citizens should avoid in the aftermath of the deadly bombing this week.

A statement yesterday on the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok’s Facebook page, quoted by the Global New Light of Myanmar, listed the locations.

They are:

Ratchaprasong intersection, Pathumwan intersection, Silom Road, Khao San Road, Narathiwat intersection, Victory Monument, Tuek Chai intersection, Benjasiri Park, Soi Thong Lo and Sukhumvit Road.

So basically, almost any popular area in the city where a lot of people congregate.

The bomb on Monday at Bangkok religious and tourist attraction the Erawan shrine killed more than 20 people. A second blast occurred yesterday at a pier in the city but no one was injured.

Police have made no arrests as of early today, though a suspect has been identified in CCTV footage.

Myanmar and Thailand inked a deal earlier this month that allows citizens from each country to cross borders via international air routes and visit for 14 days without a visa.
