The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has invited citizens of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to post photos on Instagram that showcase the area’s development and encourage regional cooperation. Three winners will win $500, $200, and $100, respectively.

The contest celebrates the 25th anniversary of the GMS, which includes Cambodia, China (specifically Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The bank launched its first programs to promote connectivity and economic cooperation between the countries in 1992.

“As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the GMS, we would like to take stock of the achievements of the regional cooperation and give a clear image of how it changed the lives of the people living along the Mekong for the better,” said Cuong Minh Nguyen, who heads the bank’s GMS Program. “We’re hopeful that the photo contest will showcase this and provide encouragement for the future work of the GMS.”

The contest is open to nonprofessional photographers of all ages from GMS countries. Entries must be original and taken personally by the photographer, not previously published, and showcase daily life in the Mekong subregion and how lives have changed in the last 25 years. Contestants can submit as many photos as they like.

To enter a photo, post it on your Instagram account using the hashtag #GMS25 and tag @ADB_HQ. Also, include a caption of 150 words or less.

Entries will be accepted until Feb. 9, and winners will be announced by Feb. 20. ADB photographers will judge the photos.

ADB’s GMS Program seeks to help implement high-priority subregional projects in transport, energy, telecommunications, environment, human resource development, tourism, trade, private sector investment, and agriculture, all with the aim of reducing poverty.
