Abbot Sitagu donates $30,000 for Nepal Earthquake victims

Abbot Sitagu has raised $30,000 for victims in Nepal recovering from two earthquakes in April and May that killed thousands.

A prominent Buddhist figure in Myanmar, Sitagu said that though the promised amount is little, he did it with a “big heart,” according to Mizzima.

The handover took place at Nepal’s embassy in Yangon on Thursday. Sitagu said Nepalis should be helped as they are fellow Buddhists, and Nepal’s ambassador was thankful.

“I am very glad to get help from Myanmar religious and social organizations. We will transfer all the donation money including the cash donated by the Abbot Sitagu,” he said.

Pictures of Sitagu and the ambassador were posted to the abbot’s Facebook page.
