There was a deadly bus crash on the Yangon-Mandalay highway yesterday that resulted in seven fatalities and over 30 injured passengers.
The Mandalar Minn bus left Naypyidaw for Yangon with 45 passengers onboard around 4 pm yesterday evening. However, near the highway’s 91-mile marker, the bus overturned at high speed, skidding off the road and into a ditch.
When the police arrived at the scene, they had to break the windows and pull out most of the passengers who were still trapped inside the vehicle.
“We don’t know yet if any of the injured passengers are in critical condition or have died [at the hospital]. We’re still investigating the scene. We still have to make a list of the injured passengers who are being treated at the hospital. Seven passengers were found dead at the scene,” an official from the Highway Police Force told 7Day Daily.
A total of 36 passengers were injured, including two doctors who were onboard.
Among the seven deceased passengers — four men and three women — were the bus driver and bus conductor.
