4.3-magnitude offshore earthquake shakes Yangon

At least three people reported feeling an earthquake that shook Yangon and the surrounding area this afternoon, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake struck just off Myanmar’s southern coast at 1:20pm today and was later categorized as a 4.3-magnitide quake. Those who reported feeling it gave it a Community Decimal Intensity of III, meaning its effects were relatively weak.

The respondents were based in Yangon and in Thanlyin.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers.

This is the second and weaker earthquake to strike Myanmar this week. On Monday, a 4.9-magnitude quake struck just north of the Andaman Islands, though no one reported feeling it.
