25 suspects arrested in murder of Myanmar migrant workers in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian authorities have arrested a total of 25 suspects in relation to the murder of five Myanmar migrants in Kuala Lumpur on January 5, reports 7Day.

Police had initially arrested 15 suspects last week six days after the attack, and took an additional 10 into custody earlier this week. All 25 suspects are between the ages of 20 and 50-years-old, according to reports.

“We’re aware that 25 suspects are currently being detained. This incident also had a big impact in Kuala Lumpur so the Malaysian police are trying their best to catch the culprits. We know there are no Myanmar citizens among the detainees because if that were the case, they would’ve contacted us for a translator,” said, San Win, chairman of the Kathpone Free Funeral Service Society, which is cooperating with Malaysian authorities.

The attack had taken place in the Sri Serdan Industrial Park when 15 Myanmar workers who were returning home late at night after working overtime were confronted by a group of 10 knife-wielding masked men. Fve workers were killed and two injured as a result. Police have not confirmed whether the attack was premeditated.
