“Homework,” a documentary by Tagu Films, the company led by Burmese filmmaker Lamin Oo, is short and sweet.
The 8-minute film, which won acclaim in 2014 but is available for the first time online, focuses on a mother and father helping their daughter do her day’s assignments.
The twist is that the father is in Bangkok and participating via video, suggesting but never explicitly saying that he is part of the large migrant worker community there. The camera never leaves the living of the family. As a result we get an intimate view of a scene that comments on Myanmar while also presenting a universal experience, the funny drudgery of doing homework.
